Suspect pursuit led to Thornton school lockout

THORNTON, COLO. - Thornton Police helped another agency with a suspect pursuit near 96th and Steele Street on Tuesday, which led to a lockout of local schools.

Lynn Setzer of Mapleton Public Schools said that six schools on the Skyview Campus plus four others were on lockout because of the local police activity. The lockout started at 12:45 p.m. and was lifted at around 1:35 p.m.

Schools affected were:

  • Monterey Community School
  • Achieve Academy
  • Explore Elementary
  • York International School
  • Academy High School at Skyview Campus
  • Clayton Partnership School at Skyview Campus
  • Mapleton Early College High School at Skyview Campus
  • Mapleton Expeditionary School of the Arts at Skyview Campus
  • Big Picture College & Career Academy at Skyview Campus
  • North Valley School for Young Adults at Skyview Campus

Matt Barnes, spokesman for Thornton Police, said the foot pursuit ended near 96th and Steele Street. No injuries were reported.

Barnes could not say what other agency was involved or why the pursuit ensued.
