West Metro Fire clears dangerous trees in Lakewood park

LAKEWOOD- West Metro Fire Protection District assisted Lakewood parks staff this week in clearing dozens of dead trees from Bear Lake Park.

The trees died off in the 2013 and 2015 floods in which water nearly reached the top of some of these trees. Recent winds created a sense of urgency and the fire department offered to help clear the area.

West Metro used the opportunity to also practice their wild land fire skills. A handful of sawyers spent the day cutting and clearing the picnic area.

Several new trees will be planted in April.
