DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - What gives a city that "walkability" factor?
According to most reports on the subject, it's things like a walkable urban development, close access to public transportation, and proximity to parks and stores, among others.
But to Chris Englert, who organizes Denver neighborhood walks, a city's true walkability comes from more than just metrics — through connectedness.
"You automatically get connected to your surroundings where you're walking," Englert said. "The natural shapes of Denver and the flow of the neighborhoods ... have a very connected feeling to them despite any walk-score numbers they have. Because of that, that's what I think makes Denver very walkable."
