CUSTER COUNTY - Authorities say a wildfire in southern Colorado has destroyed nine homesand 18 structures as residents along Road 387 remain under evacuation orders.

The Junkins Fire has now grown to 18,099 acres with 39 percent containment.

The sheriff's department says the fire started when high winds blew a metal outbuilding into a power line.

As of Sunday, crews on the east and southeast flanks of the fire are working to secure and reinforce the established containment lines. Firefighters are patrolling near homes and other structures to ensure that there are no
concealed hot spots that might threaten those structures.
