Crews battle new wildfire in northwestern Colorado

CRAIG, Colo. (AP) - Single-engine air tankers are helping firefighters battle a new wildfire in northwestern Colorado.

The 300-acre Elk Springs Fire started Saturday in windy conditions near a small ranching community of the same name. It's burning near some ranches as well as oil and gas facilities and power lines.

Fire spokeswoman Susan Valente says cloud cover and higher humidity were helping crews Sunday.

Recent lightning strikes have started other small fires in the region but it's not clear yet how this one started.

The new fire comes as crews work to finish containing the 32-square-mile Alkali Fire near Maybell.
