Woodland Park mayor resigns after sex assault arrest

WOODLAND PARK - Woodland Park Mayor David Turley has resigned following sexual assault allegations which he claims have severely impacted his ability to do his job.

The 65-year-old was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault on a child in May. Turley has maintained his innocence.

"I want to state very clearly that I am innocent of the allegations that have been made against me and I look forward to having my name cleared of such in a court of law," he said in his resignation latter.

Court documents allege Turley inappropriately touched a 17-year-old boy in a hot tub at his home.

Police say Turley bought sports equipment, a video game system and an iPhone for the teen and offered to give him $10,000 for college.

He was arrested May 23 after police say he admitted to the inappropriate contact during a recorded call with the boy.
