Man arrested for assaulting RTD bus driver

LAKEWOOD - Police have arrested a 27-year-old man accused of assaulting an RTD bus driver last week after refusing to pay the fare.

Anthony Matthew Mata is facing second-degree assault charges for allegedly breaking an RTD driver’s nose following an argument at a Lakewood bus stop.

The assault happened September 8 on a Route 16 RTD bus that had stopped at Colfax Avenue at Miller Street.

Mata was taken into custody on Sunday after another RTD driver in Westminster recognized him and called authorities. Mata was reportedly wearing the same clothing he was wearing during the assault incident.
