KUSA - Wyoming authorities say a toddler who was reported missing is dead and his remains may be in a Colorado landfill.

According to the Laramie County Sheriff's Office, a 13-month-old had not been seen by his mother since Oct. 22, but was only reported missing on Wednesday.

The child's mother told police her boyfriend gave the 13-month-old to a man named "Santiago" so he could take him fishing.

Laramie County authorities say neither the mother nor the boyfriend know "Santiago's" last name or where he lived.

Detectives say while the investigation is "very much in the early stages", the child is dead and was dumped in a trash bin at Laramie County Community College.

Arrangements are in the works to search the landfill in Ault, Colo.

The child's name has not been released, and detectives did not say the manner of which the child died or if this is a criminal investigation.
