9Cares Colorado Shares

DENVER - 9Cares Colorado Shares, our 34th annual food drive, is Saturday, Nov. 12.  On this day, we collect non-perishable food, clothing, coats and toys from 7a.m. to 4 p.m. at five locations in Metro Denver and more than 30 remote sites throughout Colorado.

Metro Denver Locations:

  • 9NEWS Studio – East Speer  Boulevard and Logan Street
  • Pima Medical Institute – East Mississippi Avenue and South Potomac Street
  • Inverness Hotel & Golf Club – East of Interstate 25 and Dry Creek Road
  • Southwest Plaza – South Wadsworth Boulevard and West Bowles Avenue
  • American Furniture Warehouse – I-25 and 84th Avenue

The food will go to approximately 100 food banks, the clothing will go to ARC Thrift Stores, coats will go to Coats for Colorado and the toys will go to the Santa Claus Shops. We also collect cash and checks made out to 9Cares Colorado Shares at each location. Money collected will be used to purchase food later in the year when the need is great.

We have coordinated other ways to give to 9Cares Colorado Shares:

King Soopers Stores throughout the month of November

At all Front Range King Soopers stores, “Bringing Hope to the Table” Boxes will be sold for either $5 or $10.   Money from the sale of these boxes, scan tags and coin boxes at King Soopers stores will go towards purchasing food.

Coats for Colorado.  This year we are collecting new or gently used coats for Dependable Cleaners Coats for Colorado.  They collect, clean and distribute coats to those in need through non-profit agencies. For more information: http://www.coatsforcolorado.org/

What Kinds of Food Are Needed?

Any non-perishable food is appreciated; however, food banks prefer foods high in protein. Those include peanut butter, tuna fish, and dry beans. They also always need soups and stews, macaroni and cheese, hot cereals, oatmeal, canned fruit and vegetables, and baby formula with iron.

Food banks also need toiletry items such as diapers, shampoo, condition, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes.
