DENVER - 9Cares Colorado Shares is thrilled to partner with another Colorado institution, the Denver Santa Claus Shop, to help collect new and gently used toys for more than 16,000 local children this holiday season.
Begun in 1931, the volunteer-driven, non-denominational DSCS has remained true to its simple, 85-year old mission of providing "a toy for every girl and boy." In that time, more than 1 million children have been the beneficiaries of the generosity of Colorado donors.
The Denver Santa Claus Shop is unique in that each December, it sets up a "store" to allow parents referred by local social service agencies to "shop" for toys on a point system. Parents are given 100 points, then can shop for toys ranging from 5 to 100 points, allowing the selection of multiple toys per household, bringing joy to as many children as possible each year.
Preferred toys include dolls, toy trucks and cars, balls, books, coloring books and crayons, games, craft and model kits, paint sets, jewelry-making kits, and construction toys. Infant and toddler toys are especially needed this holiday season.
If you are unable to go to any of the six Metro Denver or 30 remote location across the Front Range, online donations can be made to the Denver Santa Claus Shop at http://www.denversantaclausshop.org/#!donate/c1ghi
