Man shot dead in Aurora parking lot identified

We're working to learn details about a deadly shooting overnight.

AURORA - Aurora police are investigating a homicide after a man was found shot in a parking lot overnight.

Police said multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots at the Riviera Motel at Colfax Avenue and Beeler Street came in around 1 a.m. Thursday. Responding officers found a man who had been shot in the parking lot of the motel.

He was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police weren’t immediately sure if the victim had been staying at the hotel or was just walking by, but did say they don't believe there is a threat to the public.

The victim has since been identified as 32-year-old Marquette D. Killingsworth, who the Arapahoe County Coroner says was shot in the chest. 

Shorty before 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Aurora Police said a man was taken into custody for robbery, but it remains unclear if he had any involvement in the homicide. 

Boston Elementary at 1365 Boston Street was placed on lockout with a delayed start of 10 a.m. due to police activity in the area. 

The investigation is ongoing.
