DENVER - In the days leading up to Colorado's Feb. 7 Republican caucus, a deluge of negative campaign ads is noticeably absent from the airwaves.
While it may make for a more peaceful viewing experience for television audiences, it also shows a lack of focus on Colorado as an important battleground in the primary process.
One factor playing in to the lack of attention is that the primary schedule begins to get more crowded in February.
Nevada holds a caucus on Feb. 4, just three days ahead of Colorado.
Colorado Republicans also share the Feb. 7 date with Minnesota and Missouri.
The state of Maine has a week-long process that runs during all of those contests as well.
Campaigns suddenly find they need to be more strategic about where to spend money and time.
Some candidates are spending time in Colorado.
Mitt Romney has an event scheduled for Saturday in Colorado Springs.
Newt Gingrich has not yet announced any plans to visit the state, but Rick Santorum and Ron Paul already have.
