PRINCETON, N.J. - New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie says Rick Santorum's 2008 comments about Satan targeting America are indeed relevant to the GOP presidential race.
DECISION 2012 ELECTION COVERAGE
Santorum last night defended the remarks he made four years ago at Ave Maria University in Florida, as he criticized a story about them that was featured on The Drudge Report. He told reporters in Phoenix that questions about what he said then were "not relevant" as he vowed to "stay on message."
Christie, a high-profile supporter of Mitt Romney, disputed Santorum's view today during an interview on ABC's Good Morning America.
"Listen, I think anything you say as a presidential candidate is relevant," Christie said. "You're asking to be president of the United States. ... I think it is relevant what he says. I think people want to make an evaluation, a complete evaluation of anyone who asks to sit in the Oval Office."
Christie also said he still being asked to join the 2012 presidential race, as Politico reported earlier this week. His answer, he said, is still no.
