DENVER BUSINESS JOURNAL - Using data collected from millions of its set-top TV boxes across the country, Dish Network Corp. is predicting Hillary Clinton will win the U.S. presidency tomorrow.
The Douglas County-based satellite TV provider (Nasdaq: DISH) said the results of its “Viewers to Voters” predictive model that uses anonymous customer viewership data generated from Internet-connected set-top boxes indicates Clinton will win the presidency but that Republicans will maintain control of the U.S. House of Representatives, with an estimated 245 out of 435 seats. Democrats will only pick up two House seats tomorrow, according to Dish.
The company said "sufficient historical viewership data was not available to meaningfully predict the state of the Senate."
“We recognize that our call on the distribution of seats in the House may be an outlier. Yet when we tested the model against 2014 House elections, we found that we were able to predict the outcome at a 98 percent reliability point, said Warren Schlichting, Dish executive vice president of media sales, marketing and programming, in a statement.
