NEW YORK - This year, New York banned all holiday decorations at city transportation terminals.

A Staten Island man was upset about the decision and decided to do something about it.

Staten Island ferry travelers were surprised to see a walking Christmas tree at the terminal over the weekend.

Because the tree is a costume, it doesn't violate the no-decoration policy.

People smiled and took pictures. One person stopped to give the tree a hug.

The man who created the walking tree, Scott LoBaido, said the city's ban has gone too far.

"Just another example of political correctness gone crazy. Where Christmas decorations are offensive or unsafe, or whatever you want to call it. It's this whole agenda that is just trying to destroy everything that is traditional about America," LoBaido said.

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg says the city has been sued over holiday decorations on city property. That led to the ban at all bus, train and ferry terminals.
