Construction on the 740-foot tower has finished and it is nearing operational status.

The Lake Cedar Group of stations, channels 4, 7, 9 and 20, came together to build the tower to broadcast the digital signals of all four stations. The federal government has mandated that all U.S. television stations broadcast digital signals in February 2009. After that, broadcasters will turn off their traditional analog signals and the government will auction those analog channels to phone companies and other businesses.

The new tower is expected to be operational in late spring of this year.

It will replace four existing broadcast towers that will be taken down after the digital transfer takes place next year.

Some local residents living in Golden fought the construction of the tower and the Golden City Council tried to seize the land as part of an eminent domain effort at one point.
