SWAT team arrests man who pointed gun at deputies

KUSA - A 59-year-old man was taken into custody early Saturday morning after he allegedly pointed a handgun at an Elbert County deputy and later barricaded himself inside his home.

James Littrell was reported as a drunk driver just after 1 a.m. on southbound County Road 21 from Private Road 160, according to the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office.

The license plate on his vehicle listed his address to the 5000 block of Dove Creek Drive in Elizabeth. Deputies say when they tried to contact Littrell, he pointed a gun at them and ran back into the house.

Deputies set up a perimeter, and called for help from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Elbert County SWAT. They say Littrell was armed and barricaded inside the house.

The SWAT team later got into the home and arrested Littrell just before 4:20 a.m.

No deputies were injured during the incident.

There’s no word yet on what charges Littrell could face.
