NIWOT - A Niwot High School teacher is facing assault charges after allegedly grabbing a 17-year-old student by the neck then kicking him in the groin for using profanity during a weightlifting class last Thursday.

43-year-old Dylan Hollingsworth turned himself in to the Boulder County Jail on Friday following an investigation into the incident. He faces charges for second-degree assault and third-degree assault.

Hollingsworth reportedly told the class that the next person to use profanity would get into some sort of trouble and “might be possibly hit or kicked.”

Shortly after, a student continued to use profanity while singing along to music and working out, the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

Hollingsworth reportedly approached the student and began applying pressure to his larynx using his middle and ring finger -- making it difficult for the student to breathe.

The teacher then kneed the student in the groin, causing him to fall to the ground.

The sheriff's office says at least 25 other students were in the class at the time of the assault.

Hollingsworth was released on bond Friday and is due in court on December 8 at 1:30 p.m.
