LAKEWOOD - As it returns to full operations, the Colorado Mills mall property is adding a hotel, set to open in January 2019.
Bedford Lodging, a Dallas-based hotel-development company, recently broke ground on a four-story, 127-room Springhill Suites that will sit across Colorado Mills Parkway, just northeast of the mall and its parking areas. It will be the closest lodging facility to the 1.1 million square foot shopping center.
The news comes as Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG) continues to reopen Colorado Mills after the Lakewood mall suffered extensive damage in a May 8 hailstorm that bludgeoned its roof and forced it to shut down for more than six months. The general mall area reopened on Nov. 21, as did 90 of the 160 stores inside, but many retail spots won’t be operating or filled until sometime next year.
Bedford reached an agreement with Simon to buy the two-acre parcel at 1299 Colorado Mills Parkway and build a hotel on it. The four-year-old development company also recently opened the dual-branded Residence Inn/Fairfield Inn & Suites in Broomfield just west of U.S. Highway 36.
