LAKE CHAMPLAIN, Vt. - It's harvest time and pumpkins are plentiful.
However, these days, gourds are being used for much more than just pies and jack-o-lanterns.
Some kayakers on Vermont's Lake Champlain took the hollow in Halloween quite literally on Sunday.
The giant pumpkins and squashes were used as kayaks.
It’s all part of a charitable event to raise money for Vermont's largest emergency food shelf.
The organic kayaks weighed between 500 and 1,000 pounds.
