Local bank distributes 'funny money'

DENVER - The next time you get a dollar, check to see if it is funny; and we don't mean counterfeit.

Vectra Banks has sent out 13,000 real dollar bills with small stickers attached to them that have funny sayings.

Some of them read, "Not to brag, but I was in a supermodels purse in L.A. last week."

Others say, "Did someone write a number on my back."

Another group have, "After that register, I need some wallet R&R," written on them.

All of them, however, look like quotes coming from the mouth of the dollar bill's George Washington.

It is just a sticker that comes off easily, but the bank actually had to get permission from the treasury department before launching the promotion last Wednesday.

Vectra Bank's president and CEO Bruce Alexander says the bank just wanted to try to give people a laugh after this long, difficult downturn.

"It's good for our economy that money is starting to circulate again and we liked the idea of bringing a smile to people's faces," Alexander said in a press release.

In addition to their locations, customers of Vectra Bank have agreed to help randomly distribute the bills too.

-Famous Dave's BBQ in Stapleton
-Dazbog Coffee at 9th Street and Downing in Denver
-Boulder Breadworks
-Aspen Café,
-The Market
-Newberry's (all locations)
-Under the Umbrella at 12th Street and Madison
-Brewed Awakenings at Glendale
-Cherry Creek North area, Wolfe's on West Colfax and Downtown
-The Cup in Boulder

The bank is hoping that the funny money will be circulated around Colorado and the rest of the country.
