Woman struck, killed by pickup in Basalt

ASPEN, Colo. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a 53-year-old woman who was struck and killed by a pickup truck in the western Colorado town of Basalt.

The Aspen Daily News reports Kathryn Kania, of Basalt, was hit as she was standing in the eastbound lane of Colorado 82 during a heavy rainstorm just before 2 a.m. Friday. The truck's 52-year-old driver was not injured, and investigators say she was not intoxicated when she hit Kania, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's unclear if Kania was intoxicated when she was hit. Basalt is about 15 miles northwest of Aspen.
