TAIWAIN - Lanterns and fireworks filled the skies over cities in Taiwan as people celebrated the end of the Lunar New Year holiday.
We're now in the year of the snake, and a giant snake-shaped lantern was the centerpiece of Taiwan's biggest show, held in the northern part of the country.
Hundreds of lanterns were released into the sky over another city.
People wrote their names on the lanterns in the hope they'll bring good luck this year.
The scene was less tranquil at a lantern festival in central Taiwan.
Thousands of bottle rockets and other fireworks were fired toward a crowd of people wearing protective clothing.
It's believed taking a hit from the firecrackers will help chase away the evil spirits.
People around the world celebrate the lantern festival on the 15th day of the first lunar month.
