TBILISI, Georgia (AP) - Cindy McCain is in the former Soviet Republic of Geogia.

She is visiting refugee centers, that are sheltering Geogians from the recent fighting with Russia.

McCain said, "The only place these people want to be is home." She said they can't go home because "of the situation that the Russians have caused."

McCain says she is there to make sure that the international community does not forget what is going on.

The influx of tens of thousands of refugees places an additional strain on Georgia, which already had some 300,000 refugees from the 1990's fighting in the two separatist republics.

Mrs. McCain dismissed speculation that she had timed the trip to coincide with the Democratic Party convention. She says this is as soon as she was able to make the trip.
