DENVER - Call it a "stimulus celebration and explanation."
A few hours after President Barack Obama signed the stimulus package into law, some of Colorado's political leaders headed to Hamburger Mary's.
There are disco balls on the ceiling and pictures of Marilyn Monroe on the walls. The regulars were wondering why so many people in suits were there. It was part of an event put on by a group called Progress Now.
Colorado Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet told the crowd that the stimulus is turning the page towards economic recovery. He says he is confident that the stimulus will be good for every family.
"We are going to invest in the middle class with the first major tax cut for middle class families which is part of this bill, we are going to invest in education, we are going to invest in the new energy economy," Bennet said.
The reaction from the crowd was generally positive.
"I think it's encouraging that we are finally getting some stimulation in the jobs," Jane Banzin said.
"Hopefully bringing more jobs, and in turn, bringing more people here and then more businesses which will increase our economy," Jennifer Dixon said.
The Democrats who visited Hamburger Mary's say the goal is simple: help people have money to buy things, like burgers.
"If there are more people who can come here then help me pay my bills then I am not complaining," Julian Kerr said.
