COLORADO SPRINGS - Military families at Fort Carson are mourning the loss of the military personnel who were killed at Fort Hood in Texas Thursday. At the same time, some are raising doubt over the level of security at military posts. ![]() "When you live on post, you have this feeling of 'I'm safe!'" Tammy Munson, a military wife, said. "That's why so many of us do live on post. Because we have that - we have to show our ID when we go through the gate. There's this level of extra security that you might not get living in an apartment complex." Munson publishes a blog on the Internet that focuses on military life at Fort Carson. Some of her friends who moved to Colorado Springs from Fort Hood over the summer told her they can't comprehend what happened in Texas. "They're very like, 'We can't believe this is happening. We used to live there. We used to live there. We used to live in that housing area that they're talking about. We lived right down the street from that school where they're on lockdown.'" Munson said. No one was on lockdown at Fort Carson Thursday, despite the scare. Military leaders assured everyone the appropriate security measures were in place. "The safety of our soldiers, families, civilians who work on and live on Fort Carson is of the utmost importance to the leadership of the 4th Infantry Division and Fort Carson," Lt. Col. Steve Wollman from Fort Carson said. Those words are tough for folks like Munson to swallow, especially after what happened at Fort Hood. "Usually you worry about your husband in Afghanistan and Iraq. You don't worry about your husband or the soldiers or the military families down in Texas," Munson said.
