DENVER - More than 40 families will be finalizing adoptions at an event aimed at reminding people that thousands of other children are still waiting in foster care for "forever homes." ![]() National Adoption Day was started 10 years ago to help create awareness of foster children. Today it is celebrated in all 50 states, but there are still 129,000 children waiting for a permanent family. Denver's celebration is scheduled for Friday at the City and County Building, downtown. Speakers include adoptive father and former Denver Broncos player Reggie Rivers, Denver Juvenile Court Judge Karen Ashby and Denver Human Services Deputy Manager Carmen Carrillo.
