Alcohol a possible factor in I-25 wrong-way accident

DENVER - Investigators believe a driver going the wrong way on Interstate 25 early Friday morning might have been drinking and driving.

The crash happened around 2:15 a.m. in the northbound lanes of I-25. Investigators say a car going the wrong direction in the northbound lanes of the highway when it collided head-on with another car.

While the driver of the southbound car only had minor injuries, the passenger was critically injured. The driver of the other car received a non-life threatening cut to the face. Both were taken to Denver Health Medical Center.

Sonny Jackson, a spokesman with the Denver Police Department, says the suspect may face charges for DUI as well as reckless or careless driving. No names or further information was immediately available.
