Recount confirms longer term limits for Boulder DA

BOULDER (AP) - A recount has confirmed that Boulder County voters approved a measure allowing the district attorney to serve three terms instead of two.

The count, certified Friday, showed the measure passed by nine votes out of nearly 60,000 cast. The election was Nov. 3.

District Attorney Stan Garnett says he's pleased with the outcome. Garnett, who's in his first term, hasn't said whether he'll run for a second term.

Voters approved a state constitutional amendment in 1994 limiting elected officials statewide to two consecutive four-year terms but giving voters the right to override those limits in local jurisdictions.

Four years ago, Boulder County voters approved three-term limits for the sheriff, coroner, assessor, surveyor, treasurer and clerk and recorder.
