DENVER - It's not where you'd expect to see a snowboarding competition, but a little bit of the slopes came to the city on Saturday.

Salomon Snowboards and the Art Institute of Colorado held their first annual Backyard Bang Rail Jam.

That means snowboarders didn't have to wait in mountain traffic on Interstate 70, they could ride a rail in Downtown Denver.

The event gave pros and amateurs a chance to show off their stuff.

Organizers say snowboarding in the city sounds strange, but that's why it's fun.

"When you're walking down the street in a big city you might see people playing basketball or you might see some pickup football game or something like that. You'll never see snowboarding, but today in Denver you can," Brad Steward, the organizer, said.

All the snow was trucked in for the event.

There was also a silent auction of one-of-a-kind snowboards, designed by students from the Art Institute.

All proceeds benefit the school's education foundation and student scholarships.
