LARIMER COUNTY – Deputies say they expect to file charges against the owner of a horse rescue shelter who had 27 animals seized by the sheriff's office last month. ![]() On Tuesday, Alesha Matchett, owner of Animal Angels Horse Rescue Shelter in Wellington paid a $9,700 bond to the Larimer County Sheriff's Office for the care of the animals for another month. She was able to pay the bond after the money was donated by a family from Evergreen. No criminal charges have been filed against Matchett, but a spokesperson with the sheriff's office said on Tuesday they still expect to file charges against her. Matchett says the accusations against her are untrue and has hired an attorney. The sheriff's office says it is also continuing to allow the public to look at the animals and submit applications to adopt them. Monday, Matchett filed a motion seeking an injunction to keep the sheriff's office from adopting out the animals. The sheriff's office has said while they are taking applications, no adoptions will take place until further notice. Matchett plans to speak to the public about the situation on Wednesday morning.
