DENVER – A crack down on red light runners is about to begin. ![]() The Denver Police Department announced Friday that it has worked out a deal with Redflex Traffic Systems, Inc. to install cameras at four city intersections. The Photo Red Light Traffic Enforcement Program has been in the works for several years. Cameras will be installed at the following intersections: - 6th Avenue & Lincoln Street - 8th Avenue & Speer Boulevard - 6th Avenue & Kalamath - 36th Avenue & Quebec Street Cameras at those intersections will take pictures and video of cars running red lights. Those digital pictures and video will be reviewed by the Denver Police Department and the owner of the vehicle will be sent a ticket by mail. Each case will be individually reviewed. Vehicle owners will have the opportunity to see the pictures before paying any fines online. The Denver Police Department has to get permits for the equipment before the cameras can be installed. Once they are in place, drivers will be given a 30-day grace period during which vehicle owners will be sent warning letters of any violation. The Denver Police Department hopes to have the Photo Red Light Program up and running by late May or early June. The department hopes the program will decrease the number of crashes caused by drivers running red lights. (Copyright KUSA*TV. All rights reserved.)
