LEXINGTON, Ala. - Snow and Alabama are two words that just don't seem to go together. It turns out the world's largest creator of fake-snow is located in northwest Alabama. The company creates snow for theme parks and shopping centers.
Francisco Guerra can make it snow.
"We're the only ones in the world that do what we do," Guerra said.
Guerra is the president of Global Special Effects, and the master-mind behind the snowmaster brand.
"Amosphere control is our expertise, we make it snow we make it rain, fog, scent we do all that," Guerra said.
Guerra's snow machines can be used both inside and out. The snow never accumulates and evaporates within 90 seconds.
"Anytime you see a snowball in a movie, that's what they're using," Guerra said.
They're not only used in homes but on movie sets, in theme parks and store windows worldwide.
"It's really amazing to help people suspend their disbelief and being able to pierce the vail that separates the audience from the effect," Guerra said.
They do so by creating something people can touch and feel but with the illusion of it looking real.
"We don't mass produce any machine, we build them 10 at a time," project manager Cody Porter said.
Porter oversees the manufacturing of every snow machine no matter how big or small and ensures all their products work successfully before shipping.
"Every machine that we have to operate we test one at a time before they go out to a customer," Porter said.
