STEAMBOAT SPRINGS - Search and rescue teams found one of two missing snowmobilers alive after they were caught up in an avalanche near Buffalo Pass. The other was confirmed to be dead on Monday night.

Jackson County search and rescue team leader Missi White says one snowmobiler was found by his father walking around outside a snow cave.

The Steamboat Today reported that two men were believed to be in a snow cave near Grizzly Creek on the Walden side of the pass near Steamboat Springs. Rescuers had been in contact with the men via cellphone.

Rescuers reached the scene Monday evening and confirmed the other snowmobiler had died. Details, including ages and hometowns, and how one survived and another died were not immediately released by authorities.

Rescuers used a snowcat, snowshoes, skis and a helicopter on Sunday in an attempt to find the men after they were reported missing.
