DENVER - Authorities say they have arrested a suspect in a hit-and-run accident that left two people seriously injured on Saturday.
Denver Police asked the public for help in finding the driver of a red 1997 Mercury Mountaineer SUV with license plate No. 011-XWH who was last seen heading south on Federal Boulevard near Alameda Avenue at 12:38 a.m. Saturday morning.
Police say they had trouble contacting the registered owner of the Mountaineer, but announced Sunday they arrested 22-year-old Jesus Obeth Armenta on charges of vehicular assault and felony hit-and-run.
The Mountaineer was found at 2nd Avenue and Federal, according to investigators. There is no word on if Armenta was with the vehicle or not when he was arrested.
Investigators believe Armenta was speeding when he rear-ended a Dodge Neon early Saturday. They say the impact of the crash caused the driver of the Neon to lose control and crossover into the northbound lanes of Federal. The Neon was then hit by a white van.
The driver and the passenger in the Neon were seriously injured, officers say. Their names have not been released.
