Families of some of the victims met in a private meeting Friday at the Aurora Municipal Center with members of the committee.
The committee is deciding how to distribute what is now more than $4.5 million in donations.
Tom Teves, father of Alex Teves, had openly wondered why he couldn't seem to get in touch with the Governor, but said he got a call from Hickenlooper Friday.
When asked if people could still feel confident with giving to the fund, he said yes but added he'll be watching closely.
The committee said it wants to have a distribution plan in place within the next 30 to 45 days.
