The official says Abdullah al-Senoussi, accused of responsibility for some of the worst atrocities during Gadhafi's 42-year rule, landed in Libya Wednesday and was taken to an undisclosed location in Tripoli, the capital.

The official says al-Senoussi is being held with other former regime members, including a former prime minister. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to brief reporters.

Libya, the International Criminal Court and France all want to try the former intelligence chief, who is known as Gadhafi's "black box," a reference to his close involvement with all aspects of the dictator's rule. Gadhafi was overthrown and killed last year.
