He's charged with killing 64-year-old Richard Caroselli of Brighton. Authorities say Schmidt's jet ski hit the side of Caroselli's boat and landed inside the boat.
Four other family members were inside the boat. Three were injured.
Toxicology tests are still not back yet on the jet ski's driver. His first hearing is set for September 17.
