To commemorate the event it is only fitting that Byron T. Embry, a man of nationally recognized leadership and inspiration, is the keynote speaker.
Drafted by the Atlanta Braves in 1997 before playing with several teams, Byron has overcome many of his own personal challenges, including a speech impediment and an emotional recovery from a physical injury that would later end his baseball career. His inspiring words of wisdom have left many with a new outlook on a life and fresh attitude towards personal achievement.
Representing Men of Distinction, Excellence and Leadership, the M.O.D.E.L Awards attracted a record crowd of nearly 700 last year. This year, the Epsilon Nu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. will celebrate a new group of African-American men who make positive contributions in their local community. Calendars featuring the 2012 honorees will be on sale, with proceeds benefitting the Epsilon Nu Omega scholarship fund.
