One week after dropping a 29-25 heartbreaker to ThunderRidge, Ralston Valley (3-1) appeared to be on the verge of a second straight loss early in the second half. Down 8-6 at half, Grand Junction (3-1) quarterback Tyler Heinsma scored on a six yard touchdown run to give the Tigers a 12-8 lead.
Ralston Valley answered on their next series when Jacob Knipp hit Jon Baumann for a 53-yard touchdown to retake the lead 14-12.
After trading field goals, Ralston Valley forced a Heinsma fumble just before the end of the third quarter. Ralston Valley capitalized early in the fourth when Justin Buys punched in a one yard touchdown run to make it 23-15.
Grand Junction drove deep into Mustang territory again, but a Matt Hestera interception in the endzone preserved the lead.
Ralston Valley will be off next week before hosting Fairview on September 27. Grand Junction visits Mountain Range next Friday.
