Amber Rollins, director of KidsAndCars.org, a national nonprofit child safety organization based in Kansas City, says some people don't know blind spots exist. The Kansas City Star reports that the demonstration showed that blind spots can be 20 feet or more and are often much bigger than a driver assumes.
The demonstration comes in the wake of the Sept. 10 backover death of a 2-year-old Benjamin Kyle Thompson, who died when he was hit while his father backed up his truck. The death has been ruled accidental.
