Police say Hale was killed when he was struck by a car near the 12000 block of Peoria Street in Brighton the night of Aug. 26.

He was found by a passing bicyclist.

His family released the following statement Tuesday:

"Although the Brighton Police Department is investigating this case very thoroughly, they have very few leads and it is emotionally destroying all of us, not knowing what happened to Shane. "
