The race is expecting 15,000 runners with registration still open! The courses range from a full marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), and two person half marathon relay.
Rock 'n' Roll races are unique and strive to make running fun with live, local bands playing every mile along the way. Enthusiastic cheerleaders and motivating spectators also help fuel the spirit.
The race will start and finish at Civic Center Park, winding through all three major city parks (Washington, City, Cheesman) and through downtown. The event will conclude with a finish line festival and post-race concert in Civic Center Park, featuring Trevor Hall. This is free and open to the public.
The Denver Rock 'n' Roll benefits the Prostate Cancer Foundation. Prostate cancer is to men what breast cancer is to women, with more than 16 million men and their families fighting the disease globally. While many advances in the field have been made, and men with prostate cancer are living longer, more productive lives, too many men still die and too many families still suffer.
Rockies manager Jim Tracy will shoot off the starters gun on Saturday. Jim's father passed away from prostate cancer. Runners on Saturday will be raising money through the Athletes for a Cure program, which benefits the Prostate Cancer Foundation. 100 Athletes for a Cure participants have raised more than $50,000 for the cause.
New in 2012, the inaugural Rock 'n' Roll Denver Bike Tour will take cyclists on 22 miles of the marathon course prior to the start of the marathon (start time 6:45am). The course will take 750 cyclists from Civic Center Park, through many of the city's parks, unique neighborhoods and landmarks with views of the Rocky Mountains along the way. It's non-timed, non-competitive and open to anyone over the age of 12. Corey Brewer from the Denver Nuggets will lead the riders on his new cruiser bike.
The event is still looking for volunteers and encourage spectators to come out and cheer on the runners. For more details, click here.
