"With Apple, it's Christmas," Ewing said. "This is what Christmas is all about for Otter Box and so everyone is really amped to get after this new business."

As thousands of people waited in line to get the latest iPhone, hundreds of people are busy on the assembly line in the Otter Box factory in Fort Collins.

Otter Box makes protective casings for phones and other devices. Ewing says it is a popular choice for iPhone users.

"Since the [original] Apple iPhone came out, there's been about $5.9 million spent on broken devices," Ewing said. "It's a big deal with people - cracked screen, bumps and bruises. It's just protecting it from life's adventures."

Collin MacDonald works on the assembly line making sure that the pieces fit together.

"Now, we're like super busy," MacDonald said as he continued to work.

The future of Otter Box and the iPhone 5 are so tied together, that Otter Box had representatives at the New York release of the new phones as part of the unveiling.

Ewing says the company's web traffic multiplied ten-fold after Apple first announced the release date of the iPhone 5. He says the whole ripple effect is good for his company's 500-plus employees and the local economy.

"We love northern Colorado," Ewing said. "We hope Christmas goes on for the next 3-and-a-half months."
