What Denver has is a 10,000-pound bear outside an arena - and he is anything but ignored.

The beloved Big Blue Bear that towers by the Colorado Convention Center downtown is getting a grand makeover.

Scaffolding and cherry pickers already surround the 40-feet-tall curious giant as crews work to remove a protective outer layer and give the 7-year-old statue a new coat of blue paint. The protective coating will then be reapllied and restoration will ensure the bear continues to entertain for years to come.

The project is expected to take about a week.
