The Weber Fire started south of Mancos on June 22. It burned more than 15 square miles and cost an estimated $3.2 million to fight. It was fully contained July 5.
Sheriff Dennis Spruell told the Cortez Journal this week that the fire wasn't an accident and that a local juvenile intentionally set it. He says prosecutors are reviewing the case.
District Attorney Russell Wasley referred questions to James Candaleria of the U.S. Attorney's Office. Candaleria said he could not comment on who would prosecute the case until formal charges are filed.
Details from the investigation haven't been released.
