Authorities say someone reported a woman falling 40 to 50 feet off the north side of Deer Mountain Saturday evening.

Park rangers found the woman about three miles from the trailhead in rocky, steep terrain. She had been hiking with a family member.

Rangers stayed with the woman's body overnight; rescue efforts are underway Sunday. The woman's name is not being released until her family has been notified.

The Deer Mountain Trailhead remains open, but the north area of Deer Mountain will be closed until the recovery efforts are completed.

Four members of Larimer County Search and Rescue are assisting park rangers.
