Japan's NHK is the winner of the International Emmy in the news category for its "Great East Japan Earthquake Emergency News" covering the largest quake in the country's history in March 2011 which generated a devastating tsunami.

It's the second Emmy win in a row for NHK, which won in the current affairs category last year for its report on the ordeal and rescue of Chilean miners trapped underground.

The 2012 Emmy for current affairs has gone to Canada's CBC Television for "Haiti's Orphans: One Year After the Earthquake," which follows the story of three orphaned children and the adults in Canada and Haiti who help them.

The awards were presented in conjunction with the U.S. News Emmys at a Monday night ceremony in New York.
