More than 1,000 zombie fans tried to break a U.S. record for the largest gathering of the living dead. Despite their best effort, they came up some 2,600 zombies short.

"We just thought it would be loads of fun to be honest," Stuart Beare, an organizer, said. "The record has been batted around the U.S. for many years now, I think the first one was 2008 and we thought it was about time the UK had a go at it."

Asbury Park, N.J. currently holds the record for the most zombies.

Back in October 2010, 4,093 participants dressed for a zombie walk.
