The director and cast members were in London Wednesday for the gala screening. The movie tells the story of a boy named Victor who uses science in a Frankenstein-type way to bring his dog back to life.

It is actually a remake of a short film Burton made in 1984 that actually got him fired from Walt Disney - the company he worked with to make this new, updated version.

"Well, the short was never really released, but I never thought about it for much time," Burton said. "You know it took many years to kind of sort of expand on it. The fun thing for me was going back, cause it's such a memory piece for me is to think about the other kids in school, all the monster movies and things that I love so it became, it didn't feel like I was remaking the short, it felt like a whole new project."

"Frankenweenie" is now playing in U.S. theaters.
